Nice

Nice is a seaport city and the prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes department in France. Located on the French Riviera, the southeastern coast of France on the Mediterranean Sea, at the foot of the French Alps, Nice is the second-largest French city on the Mediterranean coast and second-largest city in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region after Marseille. Nice is approximately 13 km from the principality of Monaco and 30 kilometres from the French–Italian border.

The airport is the second largest in France and has become a focus for a variety of distribution and service industries. Nice is the city of Matisse which becomes part of Unesco heritage. Even in the winter the cafe terraces are filled with people contemplating the famous Promenade des Anglais. Fabulous creations have been realised in the floral gardens and parks of the hills of the Chateau, the Chambrun park or the Espace Massena. Each day on the Cours Saleya there is the great flower market where one can also find fruit and vegetables in the mornings.

The Carnival of Nice, which dates from 1873, is France's first international carnival and an unmissable winter event on the Côte d'Azur. It attracts participants and onlookers from all over the world. Nice has a long history of tourism. Apart from the beaches and yachting harbour, tourism is stimulated by Nice’s cultural facilities, shops, and architectural heritage; business tourism is also of considerable importance, based on the Acropolis Congress Centre and associated exhibition halls. In addition, numerous events and festivals are organized each year, notably the Carnival of Nice, which dates from 1873, but also including the open tennis tournament.
